2015 Nail Game Strong

Happy New Year! Ready for 2015! New goals & inspirations.

My client of about 2.5 yrs now (and now one of my good friends) has always done the same nail design since coming to see me for the first time in Hawaii. She always did the iridescent silver glitter gradation. A few times, we used gold, or this past Christmas we used some red, but silver glitter was her favorite & regular. But today…our first new set of the year, she decided to change up her nail M.O. and do something different.
She chose a very chic design with simple colors & clean lines.

It had been a while for me to actually do some nail art, and it was so much fun! I love the design on her– more importantly, she loves it!

Her usual “mermaid glitter” is just going to have to take a vacay for now.

The line down the middle going up from the tip of the triangle at the base of the nail gives the illusion of lengthened nails.

I am so excited we got to try something new. It’s not too crazy of a design; simple, but not boring. Very chic!

If you’re a creature of habit– especially with nail designs, why not change it up a bit and welcome 2015 with fresh nails!

Happy Holidays!

It’s been a while! 2014 was a crazy one! I moved to CA and am starting everything from scratch. I haven’t been doing nails at all! Terrible– I know! But I finally got around to doing it just in time for Christmas.

If you noticed, my nails are short! My claws have been filed down to little shorties since June! It’s crazy but with my new job, it’s just impossible to keep my beautiful class intact.

This design was created using CalGel and Trump Gel. This nail set is a natural nail gel overlay. Gold & clear iridescent glitters with different sized gold hexagon Splash! brand holograms.

I’ll try to do better about doing nails & posting! Thanks for visiting! Happy Holidays & remember to keep your claws modish!

Black Summer

It’s still summer and fashion trends are all about the colors and bright. Same goes for nail trends. Yet, black nails still seem to be a trend that defies seasons.

I’ve been wanting to try out black nails for a while, and even though it is summer, I decided to give it a go.

Some of my nails broke and I didn’t want to extend them, so I have some mini claws. Since the stiletto nails are more fragile, I decided to lay a layer of Bio Sculpture gel first for a little strength. Then I used Trump Gel for the rest of the layers. I topped it with soak off hard gel by Trump Gel.

It is a French, but at more of a diagonal “V” shape rather than a curve. I used gold holograms by Eriko Nails to line underneath the French. Instead of directly under the line, I spaced the holograms down a little further. For a few of the nails (more specifically, the mini claws), instead if lining with holograms, I put random neon holograms, by Splash, on the black French.

I think this design would also be cute even in white or a nude.

Camouflaged

It’s been a long while. I’m sorry. Things have been really crazy.

Lots of cool fashion trends this spring/summer. And camo is still in! So, I decided to take this trend onto my nails! I got the inspiration from one of my outfits.

20130627-040244.jpg

20130627-040229.jpg The juxtaposition of tough camo with girly pink. Accented with gold accessories.

20130627-040550.jpg This is a natural nail over-lay using Trump Gel. Hot pink with camo. Gold accent studs & holograms heart. Blinged out skull charm to give it a girly-edgy look.

It’s a quick post, but that’s all I have time for right now. I’ll try to be more consistent again!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Happy Valentine’s Day, bloggers!!

Love is in the air, and the past few weeks at the salon have been many heart designs, pinks, reds, glitter, and love-themed.

Since V-Day and CNY (Chinese New Year) were so close this year, many of my clients did a combo using golds and reds and incorporated hearts into the design.

Aside from the usual red or pink glitter gradation, there have a few designs that have stood out to me. Here they are:

20130214-020625.jpg

20130214-020642.jpg These are natural-nail overlays done using CalGel and Trump Gel colors. The lace and paisley motif was hand drawn with gel. This client is my oldest client by physical age, but she is my youngest at heart! Se has the most beautiful attitude and wonderful take on life. She is always dressed to the nines and always makes a grand entrance just by being so fabulous.

20130214-021010.jpg

20130214-021022.jpg Another natural-nail overlay gel nails. Done using CalGel and Trump Gel colors. The holograms are Eriko Nails. The hearts are hand drawn with glitter gel. She works at the bar so her cuticle area are always really dry, and her nails take a beating, but she always makes a point to get them done and keep them looking good regardless. She selected the design. She said she found it on Pintrest.

20130214-021439.jpg

20130214-021453.jpg A natural-nail overlay gel nails done using Trump Gel. One of my favorite clients! Ms. P works at the zoo. We always try to do an animal-themed nail design whenever she comes in. This month, we went with animal-print that’s not usually seen. This style is propulsion in Japan now, it’s like a cross between the-dye and marble. It is to make the animal print look more real and natural– almost like fur. I used red glitter gel to outline the deep French, and accented a few of the nails with heart holograms.

20130214-021832.jpg Another natural-nail gel overlay done using Trump Gel. This is for my really great friend, Ms. U! She is a bride-to-be who is taking time off from work to spend time with her fiancé before he gets deployed. I decided to send her off with some nail swag. We did a beige/nude gradation with mint holograms shaped into a heart.

20130214-022216.jpg

20130214-022226.jpg This is a sculpture-nail overlay gel nails using Trump Gel. I used nail forms & soak-off hard gel (by Trump Gel) to sculpt and extend the length of her nails, since her natural nails were a tad too short to point. This was done for my friend, also Miss Chinatown Hawaii 2013! She picked out the famous Commes des Garçon logo as her v-day nail design.

20130214-022538.jpg

20130214-022548.jpg

20130214-022556.jpg Last, but not least: Ms. N! I have posted her nail designs in previous posts. She came to me this month with a CNY // VDay combo nail design in mind. This is a natural-nail design using CalGel base & Trump Gel colors and soak-off hard gel top sealer. I hand painted the hearts and word “LOVE” using glitter gel.

I hope all you bloggers have a fabulous Valentine’s Day! It’s not too late to go out and get your V-Day nail swag on!

Girly Girl

Sometimes we get so wrapped up with crazy art, we forget about the classic looks.
Simple is sweet. And simple is in.

Girly- girl look is easy to do, easy to work with, and you will never get bored. This type of style doesn’t mean you have to choose colors like pink or lavender. It can be a range of pastels– even white.
Of course, you can create girly designs like floral and dots. But you can make girly out of a simple deep french using a soft color and glitter or hologram to line it.

Today, I was lucky to do a new set for a sweet college student. It was her very first gel nails! She was a sweet girly-girl. So, she picked a really soft pastel pink, and a pearly white hologram in big and small sizes to line the deep French.
The design was very simple, but fresh and clean. A cute look.

For the new year, maybe you want to try something simple, sweet, fresh , and girly like this. You’ll never get bored. And even if you do, you can always add to the design!

A Sweet Treat

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of doing a really fun design I have not yet done: cupcakes!

Ms. M has coming to me for about 6-7 months now. She always tries new things, and she brings in pictures and designs of what she is thinking. We take bits and pieces and put together our own take. I love this about her. I also love how perfectly made her nails are for square shape.

She loves red, and this time, she really wanted to do cupcakes. So, we decided to do a red color matte gradation, and a pink matte color gradation for the cupcake base. We chose to do the dot sprinkles with acrylic to give it an embossed look. And, the cherry on the top is a red Swarovski crystal.

Lets just hope, Ms. M doesn’t get in trouble at work for having “flashy nails.”

So here is a sweet treat for those with a sweet tooth…er…nails!

While flipping through the web for cupcake ideas, I ran into tons of different styles. Try out different color combos, medias, textures, and designs. The possibilities are endless.
I had so much fun with this. Maybe I can do a “sweets themed” nail set next!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!

I spent both NYE and the first working at the salon. I have no complaints about it, I love doing nails and both days were fairly busy.

I did many silver, gold, black, and navy nails. Lots of glitter gradations and even fashion frenches.

Here are some of my favorites that I did on New Year’s Day.
I chose these to post because they are simple, yet unique. They aren’t quite the same glitzy-glam level as the typical new year’s nail designs.

20130102-235100.jpg This pedicure was done using O.P.I. nail polish and Eriko holograms. It’s a pink-beige base with dark pink and silver AB holograms.

20130102-235244.jpg A natural nail gel overlay done using Trump Gel. An almost neon pink gradation and a champagne gold glitter “party nail”. One clear Swarovski crystal stone at the base of each nail for accent. It was her first time getting gel nails!

20130102-235514.jpg Another natural nail gel overlay done using Trump Gel. I mentioned Ms. N in previous posts. This is her newest choice of design. It is 2 types of green and white marble. Mint and jade greens. And we used Swarovski crystals in blue, clear, and silk.

It’s the new year; how will you celebrate your nails?

Sister Act

It’s been a really long while since my last post. I’m so sorry. It’s been a crazy end of the month, as in sure it has been for everyone.

Anyway, today, I had the pleasure of doing two nail sets back-to-back, for two very gorgeous & special sisters!

One of my besties is back from SF to visit again, and today I did her nails and her not-so-little-anymore little sister’s nails also. Last time she came, I did the Dripping Hearts design.
Today…well…she was slightly more ADD. But it turned out super fun and really cool!

Her sister planned it out more and had an underlying color scheme: blue, gold, black & white. Mega edgy yet glitzy.

I had so much fun with these girls. And it’s great when I have so much freedom with the art.

They both gave me a quick sketch of what they were thinking and then we worked around it. Making some changes along the way, too.

20121226-225058.jpg Top: Baby sis // Bottom: Big sis

20121226-225249.jpg
Little Sis: Trump Gel & CalGel. Designs done with acrylic paint. Drips, holograms, glitter, stripes, & cheetah/leopard print!!

20121226-225455.jpg
Big Sis: Trump Gel & CalGel. Coral, red, white, black, glitter, hologram, cross, polka dots, stripes, & cheetah/leopard.

Thank you for coming in, ladies!! I had tons of fun!!

I will do my best to be better about posting again. Thanks for being patient.

Holiday Nails: Part II

“Jingle bells, jingle bells…”

Aaaaaannddd…I’m back with part 2 of the holiday nails post; a continuation of “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” post.
In this blog post, I’ll show the holiday nail designs done so far for this year.

20121123-220031.jpg Snow Leopard! A natural nail gel overlay using Trump Gel . White (M001) gradation with all over clear Eriko glitter (001), & brown leopard print. Print drawn with acrylic paint.

20121124-215205.jpgPedicure done w/ Trump Gel. One side dark green (M109)& gold glitter, the other dark red (M409)& gold glitter. A 3D Santa hat on one big toe, and 3D wreath on the other.

20121124-212009.jpg A natural nail overlay done using, again, Trump Gel. A subtle pearly//shimmery white (P001)gradation with a red (mix M402 & P001) ribbon & gold glitter trim design. I drew the red lines freehand with gel.

20121124-212218.jpg Gel nails. Simple gold glitter gradation w/ red & silver star holograms. Matching toes below.

20121124-212342.jpg Pedi was done with regular polish. We did a gold glitter gradation to match the hands. Also added red & silver star holograms.

20121124-212506.jpgAhhhh…one of my proudest works of art. This client, Ms. P, works at the zoo and always let’s me be creative. She just sits there and waits for the results. We used to always have an animal theme going, but since it is the holiday season, I decided to just draw different holiday characters and symbols on each nail. The base is a natural nail gel overlay done using Trump Gel. White (M001)& blue (M711)color gradation w/ clear Eriko (001) glitter all over. Each of the designs were hand drawn using acrylic paint, and I used some star and circular holograms to add a blingy touch to them.

20121124-212513.jpg Top (L-R): “JOY,” gingerbread man & candy cane, wreath w/ holograms, and bells & present w/ few holograms. Bottom (L-R): Christmas tree w/holograms, Rudolph w/ hologram to make a dimensional nose, snowman w/ snowflake & snow, and mistletoe.

20121124-214627.jpg Mrs. Claus & Mr. Claus!!

Aaaaannnnnddddd…finally…my own holiday nails:

20121124-215548.jpg

20121124-215609.jpg

20121124-215557.jpg My claws are finally growing again! Yay! Baby claws done using Trump Gel & CalGel. Left hand is red plaid with a ring finger bedazzled. Right hand is green plaid with a gold glitter ring finger w/a bow charm. The base on both hands are a tan/nude color (M802) deep French. I used CalGel red (CG18) & white (CG01) and Trump Gel green (M715) to draw the lines for the plaid. I used Eriko white small holograms to line the deep French.

Well, that’s all the holiday nails I’ve done so far. I can’t wait to get more holiday requests! Channel your inner artist and welcome the holiday with creative designs of your own. Feel free to let me know if you would like to see how I did any of these designs. I am trying to work on some “how-to” posts, but am still in the process of thinking of subject matter.

Thanks for visiting, and remember to keep your claws modish!
